A Week Later

That's Carpe (Junior #1) on the left and Tempus (Junior #2) on the right.

Mama Dove was very reluctant to leave the nest this morning, and scolded holy-hell out of me for drawing so close. She fluttered in place above the nest, much like a hummingbird, before flying a few yards away, all the time coo-ing and scolding.

Good to see her determination to protect her young, but made me feel like a heel to disturb them - as it no doubt should!

If she didn't dive bomb you, you probably did no harm. Wee birdie!

This is neat to see Martha. It's fun to watch them grow from little fluff balls till they leave the nest.

Have you seen the mama dove carry the baby dove poop out of the next? Sparrows do that, and I've been told most birds do, but I've only seen sparrows do it.

Zhoen: No, she didn't - she just fussed at me.

Daisy: Sort of like with our kids, too, only quicker, and we don't have to worry about teaching them to drive!

Jim: I haven't seen that, but there are little piles on the nest substrate, as if the parents just leaned off the nest a bit before making their deposits.
