Emmolation of America
Another four o'clock in the morning; can't get to sleep yet. I try not to watch news stories; can't fix anything. I stare out the windows of my daughter's fourth-floor apartment, watching the night trains roll by The apartment shakes from trains on the closest track, twenty yards from the building. I feel detached, isolated; numb.
Jumbled thoughts rule my brain; nothing makes sense, there is no order to any of it. Everything is raw, bloodied and bruised.
I seek solace in music. Solace isn't the right word: distraction, probably. This morning the song is "It's Been Burning for a While" by Chris Pearce.
Outside the morning bird choruses are beginning; time to go to bed.

Not a time for spelling correction. Tell the truth I'm not all that enthusiastic about elections, those yet to come and certainly not the one just past. The bad guys got in with the biggest majority for yonks. Like you we are in claws of a blustery coward; ours fearful of making decisions, yours making them anywhere he likes, probably on the pot. I delay my first coffee until 13.00 hr, in the pretence that it makes me seem adult. Nothing of the sort, of course. More of a dweeb - a word that deserves wider distribution.

I removed my original response to your comment because it didn't accurately reflect what I wanted to say. Also, I wasn't sure of some of the sources for quotes.
Thank you for responding to my post. I'll get back to you soon.
My dear, I hope when you woke things felt better within. I also have little hope for my country, and while I think my kids and grands will be ok, I grieve for those who will not.
My best to you, Martha.
Mike
