Surprizingly, we are having people over for burgers and hot dogs, who knew?
Have a good one, fireworks are one of the great achievements of the human race, I think, the Chinese in particular. Though I seldom manage to stay up late enough to enjoy the ones to celebrate the great decapitation fest which began here on the 14 July a couple of hundred years or so ago. Perhaps if they'd done it in November, as we (Protestant) Brits managed to find another violence-and-torture-based excuse for...

Just imagine, if things hadn't worked out as you'd wanted you'd be paying homage to an octogenarian with plebeian tastes, drinking larger gallons and driving longer miles, writing "colour" instead of "color", watching TV uninterrupted by commercials, subjecting your bodies to socialistic (ie, free) medical treatment, playing cricket instead of an advanced form of rounders, eating infinitely inferior hamburgers, being denied the pleasure of putting bad guys to death, filling your cars up with the financial equivalent of liquid gold, passing your Sundays more or less unaware of the presence of God, letting off your own fireworks and repairing the personal damage at the aforementioned socialistic hospitals, getting Boxing Day off, and... well, you get the idea.
You win some, you lose some.
Me? I stayed indoors on July 4 and people in Dormont, a Pittsburgh suburb, used to ask me why. It's the day the natives are entitled to be unfriendly, I said.
