Going to Meeting - for Terry, as Promised.

When we congregate for meeting for worship, we sit in silence, awaiting the Light, that of God within us all.

However, on our way inside the meetinghouse, and after meeting, we are chattier than an entire roost of crows or ravens. These ravens reminded me so much of some of my favorite members of meeting, loved ones now gone forever, except in my heart. I miss thee, Marian, Posey and Aunt Ginny.

I don't know where I found this, and apologize for not remembering to record the URL when I saved this image. (c) 2009 Martha McLemore.

Crow--I loved this little photo.... I attend a special interest women's meeting once a week and we always manage to get in at least one comment about how many of us are now " crones ", but this image made me wonder if actually we are not ravens... the postures are so familiar!!
thanks for this ..especially in the context of going to a meeting...it's good for my headspace to see things in other ways...

Harlequin:

I was captivated by this picture when I saw it. The birds look like they're gossiping, don't they?

those slanted trunks of the trees in the background add a lot to the composition of this pic...

being together... sharing... being human...

I like that you see the poetry in this photograph, HB. I was so focused on the ravens, I didn't notice the other elements of the composition.

Cool!

I love the photo. It reminded me of a short story I wrote last year. I have it up on my blogs in the side bar.

Of all the many forms of Christianity the only version that has ever nudged my heart is the Society of Friends. I must confess that when I was younger I thought Quakers were as extinct as dodos. I was truly amazed to discover how wrong I was when I started doing more research.

I'm happy now with who I am and where I am on my spiritual path, but if ever there would be a group to call (caw-ll?) me in it would be the Quakers.

Hello, Michelle:

I wrote about you and your Save the Words challenge in comments on another blog - bestofnow.blogspot.com, Joe Hyam's blog. He had asked about the word crocitation, so I told him how I came to use it.

About the Friends: I found peace and contentment in meeting, on my third visit. At the exact moment (an epiphany), I came convinced. One of the things I like about meeting is the silent worship. Allows me to explore my spirituality unfettered by outside voices.

Glad you found a path that brings you spiritual contentment.

Better late than never. I tried to seek out the picture when you sent an email a while back but was unable to connect. I must have this picture - wow. To belong to such an unkindness would be truly grand. Your whimsical analogy was wonderful. Magnificent. Thank you.

Friend, thee has no idea how accurate "an unkindness" can be when Friends have meetings for business each month! In this (and many another) regard, Friends/Quakers are no different than any other group of people who come together for religious expression. :-)
