" . . . when you die, you are grieved by all the atoms of which you were composed. They hung together for years, whether in sheets of skin or communities of spleen. With your death they do not die. Instead, they part ways, moving off in their separate directions, mourning the loss of a special time they shared together, haunted by the feeling that they were once playing parts in something larger than themselves, something that had its own life, something they can hardly put a finger on."-
David Eagleman

In response to your wonderful post, Anne.
Shame on me: I neglectected to say where I found Eagleman's quote. I borrowed it from Whiskey River.

I love this image. Of course, I would.
And thus science and philosophy meet perfectly...
Heaven.
And I thank you with all my heart.
I like this a lot. My atoms and molecules might coalesce in a bottle of rum one day hence.
Loley responce to Anne's lovely post1
Yikes, I mean 'lovely response'. And yes, I first saw that quote at whiskey river but didn't want to say anything :-)
Dear Madame Crow,
I wandered over from Works Well, because I thought what you wrote on his post about mind changing was interesting, and I don't think you should want to delete it!
I haven't spent much time here, because it is late where I am writing from, but I see you have responded also to 20th C woman.
I wish you had written something in the About Me part of your blog, but I will be back to explore further.
Thank you, everyone, for your responses.
Z: I like this idea, too, which is similar to what Anne had written.
Steve: Nicely put, and I concur.
Fresca: Yes, I think it might be.
Anne: I had read your post and was struck by what you wrote about our atoms going back into the universe when we die/don't really die. But I wandered off without leaving a comment. Then, later, I stumbled across Eagleman's quote and immediately thought of you. Interestingly enough, I encountered Eagleman while searching for info on our brains and depression, but didn't make the connection until I googled his name from the quote. Small world, ain't (as they say around here)?
Jim: you'll find mine in some Irish whiskey, someday. Cheers!
M-L: Anne's post was very good, wasn't it? They always are. (Good thing BB didn't read this - he'd smack you fingers for the second post.)
Duchess: I am a 63+ year old woman in south-central Pennsylvania. I like to write, read, paint - and eat good food. I do the last thing on that list very well; the others - with varying and lesser degrees of success. I do read your blog, which I also enjoy, though I haven't commented. Nice to have you visit.
This is wonderful as was Anne's post that I just went by and read.
Sooo interesting. But, I tend to imagine the atoms in my body breathing a sigh of relief, as if they were all actors in a really bad play and just glad that the gig was finally over!
